How to transition into Fall Clothing; Add a jacket. Business in the front, party in the back😉

I don't know about you but I feel like fall came upon us quickly.Im not truly ready to pack my sandals away but the way this cold fall wind is set up…to the basement they go. Maybe your fall wardrobe needs an update, you have lost or gained weight or just want to hang on to summer a little while longer, here are some ways to transition into fall and not break the bank.

Shop Your Closet

I know this is an unpopular opinion but sis, the answer you are looking for may just already be in your closet. Look in your closet and pay close to attention to pieces that you have barely worn or still have the tags on. This is the easier step to update your wardrobe. Get rid of the clothes that you changed your mind on or haven't worn or can't fit within the past 2 years. Resell items to a second hand/consignment shop or donate to Goodwill. Either way it's all going to a good cause- funds to updating your closet or becoming a treasure for someone else.

After you get rid of the items that no longer serve you, examine the keeps. Take note of items you have and push the ones that you haven't worn and push them to the front of the closet. Keep these pieces in mind as you do the wardrobe update so you can make new outfits with them.

Fall shoes

I'm the type that will buy a shoe first and ask questions later. The shoes make an outfit for me everytime. I'm a firm believer that an outfit can be saved just by your shoes. Invest in a cute boot or bootie to wear this fall. One that is comfortable AND cute. Despite what others might believe this is truly possible. You just have to explore multiple brands to find what works. Generally speaking, if the heel has more quality (I.e. real leather and heel feel steady and original starting price is more than $50) you have a better chance to find comfort in the heel and not have the dreaded leaning heels that look like they're gonna crack in half any moment.

Add a cardigan/jacket

This simple change can reep 2 benefits: it can keep you warm and give your tshirts a longer life. I can get hot really easily so I love layering. I love being able to adjust my personal thermostat with the addition of subtraction of clothes. An additional benefit is it can add a bunch of fall colors in vibe just by adding a plum jacket for example.

Update leggings

Purchase a few leggings. Get some indifferent colors. They are easy to tuck into boots and can give cheap variety. Also this gives the flexibility of pants if it's cooler and lightweight enough to not be hot if the temperature warms up a bit.

Add a Statement Piece

What’s a statement piece? It’s one piece that stands out and says something about you/your personality. It can add some spice to your outfit and serve as a conversation piece. While this piece is bolder than other items in your closet, it is also able to play nice with other pieces in your closet. You will be able to wear it multiple ways to get a different effect for your outfit. Examples include a multicolor purse, animal print coat or a unique patterned pants. Anything that has an eye catching element, bold colors, unique design, intrigue detailing can all be considered a statement piece.

Accessorize

Make sure you add at least one accessory, hat, jewelry, purse, etc. An outfit is never complete without a purse for me- all other things are optional. If you are not into accessories that much, try using one piece that can serve as a part of your outfit everyday no matter what you wear. This will add a layer to your multiple outfit combinations.

So I’m not a math person, but I do know the more single items you add to your wardrobe can multiply your options significantly. No need to only buy outfits or buy in huge shopping sprees in order to feel change in your fall wardrobe. Just curate piece by piece and before you know it, your wardrobe will be complete.
