Something New
I want to tell y’all about the Seafood Boil that I cooked. This is not a cooking blog so don’t get used to it. It’s a combination of recipes I found on pintrest. And I’m only talking about this dish because there’s a deeper discussion to be had. I was motivated to cook because of the pandemic. I was craving seafood and didn’t feel like going through all the suiting up to get some. Let’s be honest, majority of women in your life have been braless throughout the sheltering in place. And heading out with masks, gloves, hand sanitizer like ghostbusters catching a phantom is a bit much. Please note this public service announcement: Always mask up in public. ALWAYS. No matter the inconvenience because it’s not convenient for anyone to catch the Rona.
Anywho, my lack of desire to leave the house motivated me to try something new.I planned this meal ahead of time in anticipation of not wanting to leave the house that day. I clicklist all the items from Kroger 2 days prior. The food turned out yummy- no doubt there-it’s not hard to follow directions of a recipe.
If I can take you back about 5 years ago, I would not eat crab legs. I love crab but hated doing all the cracking of legs to get to the meat. It creeped me out because the legs looked like they was going to just get up and walk off the plate. i would only eat crab cakes or items that had the crab meat picked out of the shell. I eventually got over it because the smile crab meat puts on my stomach outweighed the minute of being creeped out. Now back to the Seafood Boil- The prep time for all the items involved was far longer than the cook time. I don’t like to spend a long time in the kitchen. I know I’m a stay at home mom and don’t enjoy being in the kitchen. Get over your hang ups. I like 30 minute meals max. The crockpot is my best friend. I cook out of necessity because I love to eat veggies and like variety in meals I eat. The prep time, cook time, and everything involved was worth the sacrifice to have something I really wanted.
That made me think about all the new things I started during the shelter in place. This blog, my freelance writing opportunities, ad placement deals (speaking it into existence) are worth the long planning hours, pitching and multitasking with mom duties. After all the best things in life are worth working for. One of the best things that have come out of this pandemic, is the constant nudges to do things that are new, uncomfortable, and/or requires a lot of time. This has been a time of growth and expansion for me. While I understand this isn’t a popular stance right now, please don’t read this as judgement eyes or another way to say there’s no excuse for anyone not to be crushing their goals while everyone is stuck at home. For many, this might be a long overdue time for rest and replenishment. For me, it allowed me to start focusing on action steps for my goals.
All that to say, challenge yourself. Rather it’s acting on goals you’ve had for a while or catching up on self care.
What is something new that you have tried recently?
