Notice the two large bottles on the ground near me. It was my peer pressure to drink more water😉

What gets you to drink more water?

So here’s the moment to dig deep and think about how you best consume water. Does a large gallon bottle staring you down motivate you? Or do you need to sip your water through a straw to slowly get to your goal? I’ll use my goal of a gallon a day for example. Usually when I need to get back into the swing of things, I need a huge gallon to stare at. I need this because it's a visual reminder to keep drinking and taking chunks out of my goal throughout the day. After I get in the habit of drinking that much water each day, I can use smaller bottles and keep refilling them often to reach goals because I’m in the habit of drinking constantly without a large visual reminder.

Schedule it!

Create natural built in time checkers to make sure you are making your mark by the end of the day. If you wake up early before your family, Set a goal of drinking at leaset 10% percent of your water goal before your day gets officially started and crazy. It's the equivalent of making your bed every morning- it's an easy win and feeling of achievement at the top of the day. By noon or whatever the halfway point of your waking hours is, have a goal of half your water done at this time. Obviously by bedtime, the water bottle should be empty. You can also place mini goals in between to help keep you on track for bigger milestones. For example, drink a whole bottle of water (i.e. 16.9 ounces) at each meal, finish a bottle after a workout, while breastfeeding, etc.

Let’s be cute!

Now that we have the important facts, look for something cute that matches your goals and schedule. When I’m at home/stationary, the larger bottle helps to achieve my goal. I also don't need to worry about carrying it around. When I need to be more mobile or have a smaller space for water, I pick a tumbler with straw. Choose a bottle that accommodates your goals and motivates you to drink.
